What's in a full set
A typical full set is a driver, a fairway wood, a hybrid, irons from 5 or 6 to pitching wedge, a sand wedge, a putter and a bag: 10-13 clubs (the Rules allow up to 14). A half set is 6-8 clubs and is plenty for a beginner. Count the clubs in the photos, not just the title.
Package sets and mixed sets
Package sets (Callaway Strata, Wilson Ultra and ProStaff, Ben Sayers M8, TaylorMade RBZ SpeedLite, Cobra Fly-XL) are designed for beginners and are the cheapest way to start. Mixed sets put together from top brands (a Ping driver, Callaway irons, an Odyssey putter) give more performance for the money, but check the shafts and flexes match.
Ladies and junior sets
Ladies sets have lighter heads, ladies (L) flex shafts and are about an inch shorter. Junior sets are sized by height, not age: U.S. Kids Golf and Ping Prodi G sets list the height range they fit. Cut-down adult clubs are too heavy and stiff for most children.
Collection or courier
A full set with a bag is bulky, so many are collection only. Check the location in the listing; a courier usually costs £15-£30.
